Pacoima Charter - June Event Summary

June was a very eventful month, even though we only had 14 school days. So this is how our students finished off another successful year:
  •      Pacoima Charter wins the 11th Annual Project Grad Super Science and Engineering Competition. This is the third time our school won top honors. We competed against 7 other schools.
  •      We recognized hundreds of our students for perfect attendance (6 of which had perfect attendance from kindergarten to 5th grade), academic achievement and outstanding citizenship.
  •      We had an art show for the school. Mrs. Thain, our full time art teacher, hosted the event. We showcased many beautiful examples of student art work.
  •      The school social work team took 16 students to Pledgerville Senior Citizen Retirement Center. Our students worked alongside seniors to decorate birdhouses. It was a great intergenerational event!
  •      The school social work team took 13 students to LA Mission College to tour the campus and culinary program. These very special students completed a 20 week cooking program here at Pacoima Charter School using Common Threads curriculum (they actually learned to read recipes and cook them in our school kitchen). The program was run by our very own school chef, Luis Barrios and the social work team assisted his efforts.
  •      Ms. Quan, our school Librarian, hosted our very first Chess Competition. Over 16 children competed to become PCS’ chess master. These children spent weeks practicing their skills during recess being a part of PCS Chess Club.
  •      PCS Glee Club performed Beauty and the Beast for parents, staff and students. Weeks of practice culminated in this amazing show, which in our opinion should win a Tony Award. Thanks to our students performers, their supportive parents and our Glee Teachers: Ms. Betancourt and Ms. Ramirez.
  •      5th Grade had a lot fun during their last month with us. Events included trips to Hansen Dam Aquatic center and Knott’s Berry Farm (they learned about history and also had some fun after), autograph day, 5th Grade Prom (for our children who stay afterschool) and a block party. Their time with PCS ended with their culmination. We wish the best of luck to all our 5th graders. It was an absolute joy seeing you grow and succeed!
