January-February Event Summary

 

  • We kicked off the beginning of the year by having our students read with therapy dogs:  Lance, Hazel, and Jupiter.
  • Our students attended a Bully Presentation during psychomotor.
  • Our Winter Fundraiser Kick off Assembly was held in the yard. The funds raised help pay for student field trips and other educational programs.
  • The ELD (English Language Development) program hosted a Parent Academy to help parents support their child’s efforts to move towards full fluency in English.
  • Saturday School provided additional support to over 100 students (on average). It is an ongoing program available for students to receive supplemental support in reading, writing, and math.
  • PLAC (our Parent Leadership Action Committee) held their meetings collectively over the last two months to plan the talent show and discuss future events.
  • We held our 6th grade orientation for our current 5th grade students.
  • Students running for School Council gave their speeches.
  • Our kindergarten students were visited by Kids Community Dental Clinic to teach them about oral hygiene.
  • Nacho Average Reader: Students who were at grade level or above in reading had a nacho party during lunch.
  • We held our annual fundraiser for Pennies for Patients.
  • Coffee with the Principal
  • Unusual Suspects performed in auditorium.
  • PLAC held talent show auditions.
  • Saturday school students with perfect attendance were rewarded with Movie day at Pacoima Charter.
  • Mrs. Quan hosted Hour of Chess where they taught students how to play chess.
  • Pacoima Charter participated in Read Across America by dressing up in college t-shirts, wearing something green, wearing a red and/or white shirt, favorite Dr. Seuss character, and pajamas. We also had people volunteer to read to the students.

 

Parent workshops included:

  •  Parent workshop hosted by Padres Pioneros
  •  Early Childhood Development Workshops

 

Field trips included:

  • Kindergarten students went on a field trip to the Getty Center.
  • Ms. Amirteymoori’s class went on a field trip to the Huntington Library.
  • Ms. Valle & Ms. Avelar’s classes went on a field trip to Santa Monica Pier Aquarium
